In April of 1939, our grandfather, Willie Burns bought his first car at the age of 25…a Chevrolet Town Sedan for $600 in a small town in Oklahoma. Two years later, he met our grandmother and took her on their first date in this car. Later that year, they took the car for its first ‘road trip’ up to Beaver Bend, Oklahoma for their honeymoon. Our grandparents spent the next 15 years with only this car while they grew their family to a family of six.  Our grandmother finally had enough of raising four kids with a working husband while only having one family vehicle.

They bought a new 1954 Chevrolet for our grandfather and left the spacious ’39 for our grandmother and the four kids. However, she was not comfortable driving the standard transmission around town, so our grandfather switched out the automatic transmission engine from the ’54 with the ’39. He also added power steering. They used the ’39 for another 10 years racking up 253,000 miles of family trips and memories.

Years later, our father recounted many of his favorite memories growing up with this vehicle including laying on the massive front fenders as a kid at the drive-in movie theater to long distance family vacations in the heat of the Oklahoma summer with no air conditioning. Our father also experienced his first date and his prom in this vehicle. For many years, this vehicle sat retired in our grandparent’s garage until our father decided in 1990 that he wanted to put the research and time putting the ’39 back to its original glory.

He spent the next 10 years stripping the vehicle down to the frame so he could rebuild it bolt by bolt to as close to the original 1939 state as possible.  We will never forgot the look of pure joy when he got behind the wheel, cranked that car up and drove it down the driveway for the first time in over a decade. Years later (once restored), it was used by the third generation of our family in several weddings as the ‘just married’ vehicle taking newlyweds away from the church as it once did 70 years prior. Unfortunately, after our father’s passing, we had no one in the family that knew how to take care of such a vintage vehicle as well as no one that was actually tall enough to reach the gas/brake petals

AMAZING COLLECTOR CARS by Chip Pearce Collector Car Auctions & Pearce & Associates.

Online bidding ends December 13 @ 7:00pm central.

This online auction features automobiles from several estates and features some hard to find, rare vehicles.  We are posting a short bio about each of the late owners which has been provided by the Heirs of those Estates.  We believe that the story behind the car and it's passionate owner is just as important as the car itself.  We are pleased to get to tell those stories..

Estate of the late Dr Billy Burns:  A spectacular, original 1939 Chevrolet Model 85, Series 6, 2 Door Sedan.  Dr Burns recently passed away and we are selling this amazing car for his family.  Dr Burns father purchased this car brand new in 1939.  Dr Burns and his father are the only 2 owners.  Dr Burns had it completely restored some years ago and has kept it inside an inflatable car capsule, only to take it out for the occasional car show or to maintain it.  Check back as we are preparing a short story/bio about the Burns family and their prized pre-war automobile.

From the Estate of the Late Larry Payne.

Several of the vehicles in this auction are from the heirs of the late Larry Payne.  Larry Payne was born and raised in Attalla, Alabama and was retired from the United States Army.  He was a Vietnam War Veteran with 6 tours.  For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star along with many other Medals.  He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 637.  After retirement from the Army, he became an electrician.  He also worked at Goodyear.  His nickname was “Sarge”.  In his spare time, he loved to build things and worked on vintage cars.  He had a love for Ford Mustangs, Muscle Cars, Jeeps & foreign cars.  He worked on Willy’s Jeeps like he drove in Vietnam.  He knows them inside and out.  One of his prized possessions was his 1958 Jeep XM-408 prototype that was built for the Army during Vietnam.  This vehicle is being sold in this auction along with several others from his collection.

This is one of 8 cars we are selling for this estate.  A 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback!  Outstanding body and highly desirable.

From the Shockley Estate in Pelham, Alabama - A beautiful original 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible
