My name is Candice Shockley.  I was married to Fred Shockley for almost 40 years  and I would like to tell you about my Husband, Fred.

Fred Shockley was born in 1946 and raised in Alexander City, Alabama.  Both of his parents worked for Russell Mills.  Until Fred began1st grade, he lived with his Grandfather and Grandmother in Eclectic, Alabama. His Grandfather was a "jack of all trades", who taught Fred how to hunt, fish, trap, raise a garden and work on cars.

Fred began working as a helper with a roofing company when he was twelve years old, and he immediately started saving for his first car.  Shortly before he turned 16, he bought a 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe. It was his favorite car for many years.

Fred owned many other trucks and cars over the years, but when he turned 70 years old, he began looking on line for "his car", the 1954 Chevy.  He looked for quite a while, but could never find an exact match.  During the search, we came across this 1946 Super Deluxe Ford Convertible.  Fred fell in love with it, and it was manufactured in the same year he was born, so it seemed as if fate had taken a hand in helping him choose the antique car he would drive in his senior years.  It was part of an estate sale, and we called the seller and he sent us dozens of pictures of the car and a video showing that it was running smoothly. My husband's birthday was the following month, so we made arrangements to have it shipped to our home here in Alabama. It arrived a few days before his birthday.  I cannot tell you how pleased he was when the car rolled off the ramp from the delivery truck.  He immediately got in and asked me to go for a ride.  And away we went....

I had been writing Fred songs/poems for years and  in celebration of his birthday and the arrival of the car, I wrote this song for him:

It was 1946,
The war was finally over, he made it home to Fort Dix,
She wanted to surprise him, and she knew that he'd be floored,
When she drove up to the station in that Super Deluxe Ford.

And she said "Take me for a ride,
I'm so happy you've come home to me, and its beautiful outside,
So you crank up the engine; I'll put this rag top down,
And I know we'll be the envy, of this whole darn town."

Fifty years went rolling by,
She was traveling down a country road, when an old car caught her eye,
With just a little T.L.C., it could be beautifully restored,
And she knew her husband had always loved that Super Deluxe Ford.

And she said "Take me for a ride,
Winter's finally over, and its beautiful outside,
So you crank up the engine, I'll put this rag top down,
And I know we'll be the envy, of this whole darn town."

Twenty more years came and went,
When I ran across this antique car, quite by accident,
I could find no better present, than a car that he adored,
And my husband shared a birthday, with this Super Deluxe Ford.

And I said, "Take me for a ride,
The autumn leaves are falling, and its beautiful outside,
So you crank up the engine; I'll put this rag top down,
And I know we'll be the envy, of this whole darn town."

My husband loved this car.  Sadly, he passed away in February of this year.  But I know he is smiling, because in October, our grandson drove his beautiful bride away from their wedding in this Super Deluxe Ford. I hope that someone will love and enjoy it as much as Fred and I have in our time together.

AMAZING COLLECTOR CARS by Chip Pearce Collector Car Auctions & Pearce & Associates.

Online bidding ends December 13 @ 7:00pm central.

This online auction features automobiles from several estates and features some hard to find, rare vehicles.  We are posting a short bio about each of the late owners which has been provided by the Heirs of those Estates.  We believe that the story behind the car and it's passionate owner is just as important as the car itself.  We are pleased to get to tell those stories..

Estate of the late Dr Billy Burns:  A spectacular, original 1939 Chevrolet Model 85, Series 6, 2 Door Sedan.  Dr Burns recently passed away and we are selling this amazing car for his family.  Dr Burns father purchased this car brand new in 1939.  Dr Burns and his father are the only 2 owners.  Dr Burns had it completely restored some years ago and has kept it inside an inflatable car capsule, only to take it out for the occasional car show or to maintain it.  Check back as we are preparing a short story/bio about the Burns family and their prized pre-war automobile.

From the Estate of the Late Larry Payne.

Several of the vehicles in this auction are from the heirs of the late Larry Payne.  Larry Payne was born and raised in Attalla, Alabama and was retired from the United States Army.  He was a Vietnam War Veteran with 6 tours.  For his service, he earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star along with many other Medals.  He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 637.  After retirement from the Army, he became an electrician.  He also worked at Goodyear.  His nickname was “Sarge”.  In his spare time, he loved to build things and worked on vintage cars.  He had a love for Ford Mustangs, Muscle Cars, Jeeps & foreign cars.  He worked on Willy’s Jeeps like he drove in Vietnam.  He knows them inside and out.  One of his prized possessions was his 1958 Jeep XM-408 prototype that was built for the Army during Vietnam.  This vehicle is being sold in this auction along with several others from his collection.

This is one of 8 cars we are selling for this estate.  A 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback!  Outstanding body and highly desirable.

From the Shockley Estate in Pelham, Alabama - A beautiful original 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible
