HANK WILLIAMS & his father LON WILLIAMS

Is this the actual Train that legendary country music star Hank Williams wrote and sang about?  Royce G. Kershaw Jr thought so.  You be the judge!

THE HANK WILLIAMS CONNECTION... On December 3rd, 1952, Hank Williams Senior recorded the last song he wrote at KWKH studio called "The Old Log Train".  This folk song is a biological account of his late father Lon Williams as a train engineer in the 1920's & 1930's in Chapman, Alabama.  Hank performed the song at a private gathering over Christmas in 1952, a week before his death.  Lon Williams worked for the W.T. Smith Lumber Company as a train conductor on a 1913 Baldwin 2-6-0 Mogul steam locomotive, hauling logs to the lumber yards.  W.T. Smith owned 2 class 7 Baldwin locomotives.  #8 was scrapped in 1948.  #7 was saved.  THIS IS THE #7 LOCOMOTIVE.

A significant amount of restoration has been completed.  It is believed that a lot of the work took place 15 years ago.  Pearce & Associates Auction Company has a large file reflecting tens of thousands of dollars in receipts and work that was done to the locomotive.  The file is too large to put together in a pdf so we are going to have ALL of the paperwork associated with the locomotive onsite, at the Kershaw Facility for your review.  Any prospective bidders are welcome to come view the files and make photo's of documents you may need.  We will also provide any photo's in our possession to the buyer.  REMOVAL - We will require payment in full to be made to the auction company within 5 business days of the auctions ending but bank wire transfer or certified funds.  Successful bidder will be responsible for removing the asset from the building and property within 90 days of the auctions ending.  Rigging, moving, loading, transporting, etc will be the buyers responsibility.  The auction company will guarantee access to the property.
